Gene Arnold Worscheck

Gene Arnold Worscheck, a long-time resident of San Diego California, passed away on December 7, 2023. As a former US Navy Lieutenant JG, it seemed appropriate that he passed on Pearl Harbor Day. He lived a full and blessed life for 91 years.

Gene was born in Sheboygan Wisconsin to Arnold and Lillian (nee Hoerz) Worscheck. He had three siblings Marion, Shirley and Joan. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, where he earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Naval Science.

Most importantly, Gene married his high school sweetheart Janet (nee Brinkman) on June 18, 1955. They were blessed with four children: Steve (Gwen), David (Shelly), Gail (Joe) Sullivan, and Amy (Ed) Brown. Along with his three living children, Gene leaves behind six tremendous grandchildren who he was very proud of: Rachel, Sarah, Jonathan, Jeanette, Zack and Nate. He is also survived by his dear sister Joan (Herring), and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

After he left the Navy, Gene had a long thermodynamics career with San Diego aerospace company General Dynamics. Gene attained a professional engineering license upon his retirement from GD and started his own company which helped builders and architects comply with Title 24 energy conservation standards.

Gene had a wide ranging list of interests: studying art and history, reading, playing tennis, hiking, sailing, playing golf, foreign and domestic traveling, family camping, playing bridge, visiting art museums, volunteering at Balboa Park Rose Garden, and classical music appreciation. He learned to play and enjoy the piano later in life.

Gene will have the following services: Mass at Our Mother of Confidence Catholic Church (San Diego, CA) on Friday February 16 2024 at 10:30am. There will then be a military honors interment ceremony the same day at 12:30pm at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego California.

Gene’s favorite line he used with friends and family was a cheerful “You’re looking good!” We were all blessed by his intelligence, thoughtful conversation, good humor and positive outlook on life.
