Frank was born on April 17, 1922 in Norfolk, Nebraska. He enlisted in the Navy and was proud to have been one of few remaining Pearl Harbor survivors. He met and married his beloved wife, Vera, in 1943. Those who had the pleasure of knowing "Frank and Vera" knew that they were virtually inseparable and truly understood what it meant to love one another through good times and bad.
Frank and Vera built their home in the Loma Portal area of Point Loma and raised their daughter, Sharon Love and son, Frank Slama. Frank retired from the Navy, obtained his real estate license and assisted his children and grandaughter with their businesses. His unending love and unlimited support of his family with their endeavors will be greatly missed. Frank was never too busy with his interests, friends or work to be available to his family.
One of Frank’s greatest past times was sitting in his rocking chair, enjoying the ocean breeze and feeding treats to his favorite dogs as they walked past his house. He loved growing organic vegetables and Aloe Vera for his friends and family in his back yard. He was an accomplished beekeeper, like his father, and he enjoyed caring for his bees and extracting honey to share. Frank asked very little from others but always had so much love to give. Anyone who knew him, loved him and he never met a stranger he wouldn’t help with his mechanical talents. Frank could fix anything with either epoxy, WD-40 or a crescent wrench. He was a strong and healthy “man’s man” who was kind-hearted with a marked compassion for honey bees, dogs and children.
Frank lost his wife Vera, too soon on November 26, 2002. Frank left his family with great memories and many lessons. When a man lives his life with the love and values that Frank had, he leaves his family with no regrets and nothing left unsaid, the greatest gift. He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Sharon Love; his son, Frank Slama; his grandaughter, Dr. Lori Love and her husband, Dr. Miguel Alvarez and his only great grandchild, Madison Love Alvarez.
The service will be held at Fort Rosecrans on February 13, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. with the Celebration of his Life immediately following at the San Diego Yacht Club. Please sign the online guest book at: www.dignitymemorial.com
