Floralma "Alma" Villar

Obituary – Floralma “Alma” C. Villar Floralma C. Villar passed away in the morning of April 24, 2016 at UCSD Thornton Hospital, after succumbing to Leiomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer. Alma was preceded in death by father Roque Calimlim, by her mother Florencia Amansec, and by her husband of 50 years, Loreto “Jun” B. Villar. She leaves behind her 5 siblings, Jesusa and husband Teody, Norma and husband Primo, Elmo and wife Francis, Elsa and husband Carlos, and Ruby and husband Bernie. Alma is survived by seven children – Joeboy and wife Baby, Jackie and husband Jimmy, Jessica, Bong and wife Marites, Eric and wife Joy, Jenny, and Joanne. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren – Jorynn, Janette and husband Brian, Jeffrey, Jasmin, Jayson, Jaymar, Jericho, Jonica, Jerell, Jonathan, Jordan, Josephine, and Jennah. Alma was born on Wednesday, July 5, 1939 in Baguio City, Philippines. She attended high school at St. Louis in Baguio City, and graduated from college with an Accounting degree from Far Eastern University in Manila, Philippines. She married to Loreto “Jun” B. Villar on June 6, 1959 and they lived and started their family in Cubao, Quezon City, Philippines. In the early 1970’s, Alma applied for a visa to work abroad in the United States hoping to give her family a chance at a better life. After several years of waiting, her visa was granted and she flew to the US in 1977. She was joined by her two eldest children Joeboy and Jackie after a few years, followed by her husband Jun. In October 1982, the three youngest children Eric, Jenny, and Joanne, joined them in the US. Alma’s sacrifices and dream to provide greater opportunities for her family were finally realized when in November 1982, the last of the children, Jessica and Bong, left the Philippines to reunite with the family. Alma spoke the dialects of Tagalog, Ilocano, and Pangalatok. She was a devout Catholic who regularly recited the rosary, and she never missed Sunday Mass. She was an ardent believer in the Miracle of Prayers, was soft spoken, and was a compassionate listener. She loved her children and her grandchildren dearly. Her favorite quote was “Do not do unto others what you do not want others to do unto you.” She lived her life as if she was an Angel on Earth. Alma will be remembered for her legacy of continued personal sacrifice. Her love for her children and her grandchildren was in the, truest form of the word, unconditional.
