Diane passed away at home with her family on Sunday, May 26, 2019 after a long battle with breast cancer. Diane was born on July 27, 1966, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Doris Jean (Klein) Schimmel and Bill Schimmel. Diane grew up in Wichita, Kansas and worked her way through college, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Wichita State University. Thereafter, she worked as a nurse at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita and then at Mercy Hospital in San Diego. Diane later transferred to UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles where she earned a degree in critical care nursing and joined the liver transplant unit.
On September 12, 1992, Diane married Dr. Patrick Michael O’Meara in San Diego, CA. Survivors include her husband, Patrick, of nearly 27 years; her son, Kyle Thomas O’Meara; daughter, Katelyn Shea O’Meara; father, Bill Schimmel of Midwest City, OK; and brother, Charles (Chuck) Schimmel and wife, Kelsy of Lawrence, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her mother, Doris. The family will greet friends at a reception following services.
