Curtis William Howell Jr was born to the blessed union of Curtis Howell Sr. and Lula Mae Howell on March 14, 1955 (in Chula Vista, California). He was the oldest of three children. Curtis was raised in a God fearing and fun-loving home with his siblings Dwight and Penelope.
During his childhood, Curtis accepted Christ and was baptized at Mt Erie Baptist Church.
Around the age of 12, Curtis explored auto mechanics. He and his brother Dwight were taught this unique trade and skill set by their father at his Arco gas station and auto repair shop. Their father's enthusiastic teachings developed an instant hobby that sparked a lifetime of fulfillment and interest for Curtis. He was known for customizing engines and cars and sought after as a reliable mechanic in his community.
Curtis was also educated by the San Diego City Schools District. He attended Kennedy Elementary, Gompers Jr High and graduated from Lincoln Sr High in 1974. Curtis was known for his respectful demeanor, intelligence, great character, and for excelling in advanced studies. As a handsome and well-liked young man, he sported a nice big "fro" and was voted by his peers for having the prettiest eyes in his senior year of High School.
His beautiful eyes met with those of the lovely Hortencia Valencia. Hortencia became his wife and soulmate. Three sons were blessed to this union (Curtis III, Franklyn, and Dmitri). Curtis was also the father of daughter Lariesa from a previous relationship. Curtis was a loving and doting father who provided for his children.
Curtis furthered his education at San Diego City College and earned an AA degree in Business Administration. After graduating from City College Curtis began a career with the City of San Diego, Sanitation Division as a Sanitation Driver 2. Curtis' colleagues were at ease when they were teamed up with him. They knew if the truck broke down, Curtis could repair it and they wouldn't have to worry about being stranded. Curtis retired after 38 years of dedicated service. He was featured on many media publications by the City of San Diego.
Curtis was a great cook and loved to potluck, barbeque, listen to jazz, and gather with his friends & neighbors. He also was a great friend to many different canine pets.
Curtis was preceded in death by his loving wife Hortencia Howell, his parents Curtis Howell Sr and Lula Howell.
In his passing, Curtis leaves to continue his legacy a loving daughter; Lariesa Howell, three loving and devoted sons; Curtis III, Franklyn Sr, and Dmitri Howell, three grandsons; Kehmoni, Franklyn Jr and Ayden, brother; Dwight Howell (Lorie), sister; Penelope Groves (Teddy) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and a community of friends and associates to forever cherish his fond memories.
