Charles Albert East was born on November 28, 1949, in Winchester, Massachusetts, as the eldest of three children to Walter and Betty Parks East. When he was just 6 months old, the family relocated to Los Angeles, California.
In 1952, his sister Leslie joined the family, and they resided in various places such as Pasadena, Clairemont, and Solana Beach before settling in La Jolla in 1958. It was in La Jolla that Dr. East, Charles' father, initiated his company, Electro-Instruments.
Growing up in the Muirlands area, Charles and Leslie actively participated in the community, engaging in activities such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and La Jolla Lutheran Church. In 1961, another sister, Kathryn, joined the family. Charles developed a passion for sailing and became an accomplished sailor, frequently participating in yacht races with his father until 1972. He attended San Diego Military Academy, where he excelled in marksmanship, graduating in 1968.
Charles had diverse interests, including a love for comic books, science fiction, and movies. He even undertook the survival course at Outward Bound. Following his time at City and Mesa College, he moved to Modesto, California, where he resided until 1986. Charles later returned to San Diego, where he took on various jobs and assisted his family with their Subway Sandwich franchise.
Known for his willingness to help others, Charles was always available with a kind word. His compassionate nature earned him the love of many, and his absence will be deeply felt.
