It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the far too early passing of Anthony Jordan Puhl on July 1, 2024, at the age of 30, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Anthony is survived by his adoring parents, Dana and Peter Puhl, his beloved sister, Vanessa Puhl, and loving partner, Lydia Gardner. Anthony will also be dearly missed by his aunts, uncles, many cousins and his large circle of close friends from around the globe. He is pre-deceased by his grandparents, Joe and Sophie Puhl and Emanuel and Doreen Asciak.
At age two, Anthony moved with his family from Oakville, Ontario, Canada to Encinitas, CA, where they lived for 5 years before moving back to Canada. There, he completed his high school studies and made many lifelong friends. He grew up playing hockey and basketball and loving all sports. He was passionate about sports, including ultimate frisbee! He was a huge Toronto Maple Leafs hockey and Arsenal soccer fan. Then at the age of 19, Anthony moved back to California with his family where he completed his Environmental Sciences degree at Cal State, San Marcos. Throughout his college years and for a short time after graduation he served as a lifeguard and swim instructor at the YMCA in Encinitas where he taught many young people to swim. Soon after, he was hired fulltime at Davey Resource Group in San Diego where he continued to work for the next 2 years.
Anthony was an amazing young man - a beautiful soul who loved life, people, all sports and music. He played the piano and was working on mastering the guitar. He gave everything his all. Anthony was the most positive, wonderful and accepting person, someone who was loved by everyone who knew him. He loved to laugh and brought a special joy to everyone he met. Anthony was the best and most loving son any mother or father could ever wish for and shared an unbreakable bond with his sister. For the past year, he and his love, Lydia, shared an apartment and planned their future together. He would come back home weekly to hang out and share meals and special times with his family. He had an overwhelming love for family.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday July 9, 2024 from 4-8 pm at El Camino Memorial Sorrento Valley, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd., San Diego. On Wednesday July 10, 2024, family and friends are invited to gather for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1001 Encinitas Blvd, Encinitas, CA 92024. Following the funeral Mass there will be a procession back to El Camino Memorial Sorrento Valley for a graveside rite of burial, followed immediately by an onsite luncheon for all friends and family. We would love to have you join us in this fellowship to help celebrate Anthony’s life.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the doctors, nurses and staff at UCSD for the tireless, loving and extraordinary care they provided Anthony throughout his final days.
Anthony may your soul be with God and rest in peace until we see each other again. We love you beyond what words could ever express. Rest in peace our beautiful and extraordinary young man.
