Angelina Calafato was a tiny lady with a huge heart. She gave all she could to anyone in need whether she knew them well or not. She loved deeply with her whole heart and accepted everyone just the way they were.
She was born in Long Island, New York in 1925 to Italian immigrant parents. She lived there with her family and in 1957 traveled with them to her father's ancestral home Mazara Del Vallo, Sicily where she met and married her husband of 59 years, Nicolo Calafato. They returned to the U.S. and lived in New York until 1959 when they moved to San Diego, California. She loved living in San Diego, sitting in the sunshine and getting a tan.
She worked for many years at Mercy Hospital and later at College Park Hospital in the housekeeping department. All the while raising her children and grandchildren.
She was a fun loving, playful, full of life little lady who was always cracking jokes and ready to laugh. Always ready to give or receive a hug. She loved collecting dolls and plates and displaying them all over her house. Her home was always open to all.
A wonderful and beloved wife to Nicolo Calafato, mother to Mae Calafato Robertson, Jack Calafato and Joann Calafato Koon, grandmother to Nico Calafato, Aubree Calafato, Nicolas Koon, and Angela Koon, and great-grandmother to Chloe Gallegos. She will truly be missed by all who knew her but her beautiful and loving spirit will live forever in our hearts.
Donations to the American Diabetes Foundation or Catholic Charities in her name would be greatly appreciated.
