Completed his journey on earth on June 11, 2021.
He was active as always until the last few days of his exemplary life, despite many years of disabling illnesses. He was a 100% service connected disabled American veteran.
He began his life’s journey in Lafayette, Indiana December 21, 1939, to parents Lawrence M. Taylor and Elizabeth McKee Taylor of Delphi, Indiana. He attended grammar and high school in Delphi then transferred to Rossville, Indiana, graduating from Rossville High School in 1958. He joined the U.S. Navy in August 1958 attending Hospital Corps School, Laboratory Technique and Blood Banking School, Fleet Marine Field Medical School serving 10 years in the U.S. Navy including three tours in South Viet Nam. During his Navy years he served aboard the USS Dixie (AD-14, USS Preble (DLG-15) (duty independent of a Medical Officer) and the Naval Support Activity in Danang South Viet Nam culminating his enlistment at Naval Air Station Miramar, California. His civilian career included Unit Manager at University of California San Diego Medical Center, Director of Emergency and Rehabilitation Services at Bay General Community Hospital, Vice President of Bay Hospital Medical Center, CEO, President and Chairman Universal Health Care Management Systems Corp., California Regional Administrator Unlimited Care, Director of Materiel Management at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in San Diego. He served as a consultant to such organizations including UCSD Medical Center San Diego, University of Texas Houston, the Barich Group, Pan American Health Care Organization El Paso, Texas, U.S. Mexico Border Health Association, COAD International, and the California Health Care Facilities Commission. He had held a California State License for Life Insurance Agent, and Realtor.
He was a man of universal curiosities and enthusiasm.
His community and volunteer activities included multifaceted areas such as President, Mission Valley Community Council, Board Member Mission Valley Chamber of Commerce, Co-Chair Mexico Committee Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce, Co-President Bi-National Health Council, Mexico Tourist Bureau, Economic Council for Senator Duncan Hunter, Co-President Border League of Chambers, Commission of the Californias, President Marston Court Homeowners Assn, President Cypress Hills Home Owners Assn. He volunteered and cataloged nationally donated medical supplies for the American Hospital Association to assist earthquake victims in Armenia. He was a Deacon in the First Christian Church in Poway, an Ordained Minister in the Universal Life Church. Baptized a Roman Catholic at Christ the King Catholic Church in San Diego.
He attended Purdue University, University of Southern California, received his Associates Degree from San Diego Community College, Bachelor of Business Degree from National University (Magna cum Laude), Master of Business Administration Degree from National University.
He received special commendations from California State Legislator Susan Davis, San Diego Mayor Susan Golding, San Diego City Councilwoman Valerie Stallings, Director of Health Department Baja California Dr. Juan Medrano Padilla and the Municipal President of Saltillo, Coahuila Mexico. He was also an Honorary Tijuana Mexico Transit Police Sergeant.
He loved world travel and visited 120+ countries, meeting, engaging with and enjoying people of different lands and cultures. He loved reading and writing poetry.
He was a cheerful, optimistic, unassuming gentle man, a man of integrity, with a great sense of humor and a delight in his family and worldwide circle of friends.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years Juanita (Nita) of San Diego; sons Albert Taylor II of Springfield Virginia, John Taylor of Vancouver, Washington, daughters Julia Zoppetti of Klamath Falls Oregon and Karen Luhrs of Broomfield Colorado, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Memorial Services will be held at Miramar National Cemetery on July 15, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a celebration of his life at the home of Colleen Crowden in Point Loma at 3655 Zola St.
