The family relocated to California during September of 1959. Tyrone attended 4th Avenue Elementary School, John Muir Junior High School and Susan Miller Dorsey High School. As a teenager, Tyrone was an avid basketball player, enjoyed swimming and riding his skate board. While in high school, he played the tenor saxophone, and fell in love with Jazz. He loved the marching band, and as member, they went on to win the Battle of the Bands under the training Doc Severinsen. He graduated from Dorsey High School in 1972.
Tyrone met Rhonda Scott while he was in high school. From their relationship two children were born, Sherelle (1975) and Shanon (1977).
After he graduated high school, he worked for the Post Office and bought his first car; a silver and black Malibu. He then attended Los Angeles City College, worked at Foremost Dairies for two years, then he was later hired on with Rapid Transit District (RTD), later renamed MTA.
Tyrone met Betty Richardson in 1981. The two were married on December 31, 1989. As a result of their union, their family grew to include a bonus daughter, Porsha Knox. They relocated to Rialto, CA in 1992. The couple later had two additional children, a daughter, Ty’La (1994) and their only son, Tyrone II (1996).
Tyrone enjoyed going to The Annual Jazz Festivals, barbecuing, fishing, going to the movies, playing cards & dominos, watching sports and spending time with family and friends. Also, in his leisure time, he loved to ride his motorcycle.
He retired from MTA in 2011. During his retirement he spent his time relaxing, gardening, and hanging out with family and friends.
Tyrone passed away on the morning of April 14, 2022, with his wife and sister at his side, he was 68 years old.
Tyrone was preceded in death by his parents, Freddie and Ora Corona Richardson; and his son Tyrone Richardson II.
Tyrone is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters Sherelle, Shanon (Warren Gibbons), Porsha (Dontray Wedlow), and Ty’La (Jose Peña); seven granddaughters (De’Jha, Broklyn, Kaia, Kasiyah, Korinne, Devyn, and Kamille), a grandson (Chase), and a great-grandson (Kano), three nephews (Farrell, Jason, & Raymond), and a niece (Shavanah), and a host of extended family and friends.
