Marie is survived by her husband, Walter; children, Daniel (Kathleen) and Genevieve, sister-in-law Ginc, four grandsons, Nicholas (Jessa), Tyler, Drew, and Alex and her nephew, Brian.
Marie was born on June 23, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois to Marie and Evan Teshar. She was the elder sister to twin sisters, Charlotte and Margaret, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Hyde Park High School on the south side of Chicago in 1951.
Marie spent 15 years working various secretarial jobs. She laid eyes on Walter in 1951 at the company they both worked for in downtown Chicago. Although they hadn’t met, Marie figured out who he was and wrote his name down on a piece of paper that she placed in her wallet. Inexplicably, he disappeared for several years. Unbeknown to Marie, Walter had been drafted into the army and served in the Korean War. When he returned to the company after the war, she saw him again! He was in the cafeteria needing a place to sit. Marie’s coworker invited Walter to join them for lunch and then “remembered” she had to get back to work leaving Walter and Marie alone to get to know one another. They were married in St. Hyacinth’s Catholic Church in Chicago in November 1955. After moving to Phoenix, AZ, Marie and Walter welcomed 2 children into their home. They moved to Yuma, AZ, San Diego, CA, Escondido, CA, Edmond, OK before settling in Highland, CA where they have resided for the past 37 years.
Her children remember her as a loving, giving mother who encouraged them to pursue their independence and goals. Sadly, Marie suffered from dermatology issues and worried that her children would have the same issues.
Marie excelled at crossword puzzles, enjoyed playing scrabble as well as gardening. She enjoyed watching shows about animals and Ninja Warrior as well as medical and police documentaries. She was passionate about her family often volunteering at her children’s schools in various capacities. Marie enjoyed her nice quiet life and often mentioned how truly lucky she was to have married Walter and have the children and extended family she had.
Marie’s funeral is scheduled for 6/17/21 at Mt. View Cemetery, in San Bernardino. Viewing is at 12:30p and service begins at 1:30p. Memories and/or condolences can be left on the memorial website further down on this page by clicking add a memory.
