Chamroeun Meas, a well respected member of the Cambodian community here, passed away at the age of 86 peacefully on October 2nd, 2024. Chamroeun was born in the village of Prek Chrov, Roka Kaong 2 Commune, Mukh Kampul District, Kandal Province, Cambodia to Aem Meas and Aem Sonn as the oldest child of 4. His brothers name is Meas Saroeun who sadly passed in the 1970s, and two sisters Saim and Soy Meas who are still with us today. Chamroeun worked as a tobacco gardener while having served in the military and ordaining as a monk for several years until he met his wife Leng Om in Phnom Penh when he was 33 in 1971. After marrying his wife they soon had a daughter Meas Sokleng in 1972 and a son Meas Soklang in 1974. Chamroeuns two children sadly succumbed to the cambodian genocide in Battambong leaving him and his wife alone throughout the calamity. Having escaped the genocide to Thailand in 1978 Chamroeun welcomed his daughter Phearoun Meas in 1979 and Pheara Meas in 1982. In 1983 the family of four was sponsored to move to the United States
Moving to Pomona, CA with his family he worked as a gardener at a retirement home in La Verne and welcomed his last daughter Phearon Meas in 1986.
After retiring in the 90s Chamroeun spent his years tending to his family making sure they had an education and were taken care of. Chamroeun loved taking his family out every weekend to parks and loved to take pictures capturing every moment.
Chamroeun was a very religious person, active in various temples and will be deeply missed by friends, family, and all who has crossed his path. Chamroeuns memory will remain in the heart of his family, friends, and all those who were honored to have had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will live on for generations to come, inspiring those with his kindheartedness, generosity, and unforgettable spirit.
He is survived by his Wife, Two Sisters, 3 Daughters, 10 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild on the way.
