February 12, 1932 - November 13, 2024
We refuse to say that our 92 year old mother, Anna Louise (Anne) Hiatt, is dead. She’s not. She is very much alive living a joyful and pain-free life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She has successfully transitioned from earth to heaven and is now reunited with her parents (Michael and Katherine Alwerth) and is catching up with her brothers and sisters (Richard, Danny, Dorothy and Hilda).
If Heaven has libraries, we imagine she has already signed up as a volunteer. She is well prepared. Having accepted the grace freely offered by Jesus Christ at age 33, she proceeded to educate herself by obtaining an AA degree in Library Science from San Bernardino Valley College. She was quickly snatched up by the Rialto Unified School District where she worked as Henry Elementary School’s librarian for 9 years and spent 20 years as a Library Technician at Eisenhower High School. After retiring from the School District, she volunteered at Sunrise Christian School where she automated the school’s library.
Volunteering was clearly in her blood. She was the PTA President of the Merle S. Casey Elementary School and was the charter President of J.P. Kelley Elementary School (where she was recognized with their first Honorary Lifetime Achievement Award). She served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary to the San Bernardino Fire Department, worked in polio clinics, was active in the Arrowhead United Way Campaigns and as a Cub Scout Den Mother. She also volunteered her time at Rialto Community Baptist Church (later Sunrise) where she was a member from 1957 to 2014.
She loved to travel, particularly internationally. Working as a part-time travel agent provided her with the opportunity to travel the globe. Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Jamaica, Canada, Tahiti, Greece, Great Britain, Romania, Thailand (her favorite), Hong Kong, Macao, Morocco and we really don’t know how many other destinations she reached.
Finally, she was a living example of Philippians 2:4 (“Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”). She often sacrificed her health and happiness to make the lives of family members better.
We (Kenneth, William, Michael and Laurie Tyler), her 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren will miss her greatly. While we are sad that she has left us, we know that she had anxiously awaited the day where she would meet Jesus and happily spend eternity with Him, her family, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Mt. View Cemetery in San Bernardino, CA on December 6 at 10 a.m.
