Yolanda M. Gomez Amaya, age 63, of San Antonio, Texas passed away on the 13th of September 2019 at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital of Westover Hills after a short hospitalization for pneumonia and a long-term battle with mental health. Although later in life she lived in nursing homes and rehabilitation center, she will be remembered by her family for her love of life when she was in her youth.
Born May 26, 1956 in San Antonio, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Joe H. Gomez and Amelia Lopez Gomez. She was the youngest of four siblings. Her sisters remember her for her sense of humor, playfulness and mischievous nature. Yolanda attended Lanier High School in San Antonio and graduated in 1973. She pursued undergraduate studies at San Antonio College to obtain her associates degree which led to her career at Fort Sam Houston Air Force Base.
She loved music, shopping, getting dressed up and going out dancing. Her love of music and dancing led her to meet her husband Miguel Amaya in 1985. Yolanda had her first and only daughter, Crystal Ann, on February 16, 1991. More than anything in life, she loved spending time with her daughter Crystal. She loved reading to her, going to the park, painting her nails and singing together. Those that knew her as a combination of Yolanda or Yolly will agree that she will be most remembered for her beauty, sense of humor and love for her daughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Crystal, grandson Michael, sisters Anna and Linda, brother-in- law Danny, nephew and niece Brian and Laura. She is preceded in death by her father, Joe, her mother, Amelia, and her brother, Jose Angel, Jr.
