Yolanda D. Flores, born Yolanda Davila, passed away in San Antonio, TX on August 5th, 2022. Born on June 27, 1951, in Corpus Christ, TX, she was always recognized in her family and community by her brilliant copper penny red hair. She graduated from Moody High School in 1969, but not before meeting Adan R. Flores almost two years before, through a mutual friend. She married Adan on January 11, 1969. Together they had three children, Michelle, Adan Jr., and Matthew.
Yolanda began serving as a military spouse when Adan joined the United States Air Force in June of 1969. She later followed him to Little Rock Air Force Base, in Arkansas with their 1-year-old daughter Michelle, after his service during the Vietnam conflict. They later moved back to Corpus Christi in 1973, where she continued to raise Michelle, and later Adam and Matthew. In 1997, Adan’s management career with the U.S. Postal Service took the family to San Antonio, TX.
Yolanda had always been interested in teaching and mentoring youth. Once her children were grown, she began working at Judson High School, Judson ISD in Schertz, TX. For 6 years she enjoyed providing guidance, support and an empathetic ear to her study hall classrooms. She forged one-on-one bonds with her students and worked to provide a compassionate environment for all.
At Las Palmas Nazarene Church, she was a sought-after community member, providing mentorship to young women and youth. Later, she was a valued community member and contributor to St. John Neumann Catholic Church. Marked on their 48th wedding anniversary, Yolanda joined Adan in his Roman Catholic faith.
Yolanda loved God and expressed it in both her Protestant and Catholic faiths. She lived her faith as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her most cherished verse, “for with God, all things are possible” truly exemplifies her reflective and uplifting attitude about her life.
Yolanda was always where she was needed, and her unwavering willingness to give of herself to the people around her will always be remembered. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, whether it was cooking or baking with them, dancing or singing, listening to their stories, or providing words of wisdom. She was a kind and selfless person to all who knew her, and she touched many people’s lives with her caring spirit.
She is preceded in death by her father, Guadalupe G. Davila; her mother, Guadalupe R. Davila; and her brother Gilbert Davila.
She is survived by her loving husband and partner of 53 years, Adan R. Flores; her brother, Arturo Davila; her daughter, Michelle Mullens and husband Kent; her son, Adan Flores, Jr. and wife Bonnie; and her son, Matthew Flores and wife Ana Lisa; six grandchildren, Brittany Mullens Cummings, Bethany Mullens Gilreath, Briana Mullens Allen, Reagan Elise Flores, Adam John Flores, and Olivia Grace Flores, and four great grandchildren, Claire Marie Cummings, Samuel Troy Gilreath, Jack Rhoden Allen, and Hazel Maxine Allen.
The family would like to thank Father Alex Pereida and the members of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, and all the family and friends whose visits and prayers were such a comfort to us.
