Winston Anthony Lindsay Cover was born on January 11, 1942, in Kingston, Jamaica. He was a brilliant man who entered fifth grade at only six years old, graduating from high school at age 14. Winston spoke seven languages fluently and attended Sir George Williams University in Montréal, Québec, Canada, for his undergraduate studies. In 1967, he joined the U.S. Army to serve in the Vietnam War. A brave and courageous soldier, he received the Army Distinguished Service Cross, a Silver Star Medal for gallantry in action, two Bronze Star medals, an Army Commendation Medal with Valor, and two Defense Meritorious Service Medals, among many others. Winston later went on to complete his graduate studies in political science at the University of Kansas and to attend the War College in Pennsylvania.
Winston served his country and the military dutifully; more importantly, he was a committed husband and father who dedicated his life to his family and made every choice with them in mind. Winston was his wife’s best friend and confidante, and this past May they celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. “Daddy” was his daughters’ rock and guide in life. Regardless of the subject, they always called him to seek his advice and counsel. Winston is survived by his loving and devoted wife, My; his daughters, Monique and Mylène; his grandson, Hunter Winston; and his sons-in-law, Geoffrey and Thomas. There is nothing that will fill the unimaginable void that Winston has left behind. He made an incredible impact on his family and helped so many people. He will be missed and loved forever.
