William Joe York, born on September 7, 1943 passed away on November 9, 2016. He is survived by his wife Joan, son Jason, grandson Jordan, mother Mary York, sisters Carol Reynolds and Barbara Gore, and brother John York.
He graduated from McArthur High School in 1961 and after a year of college enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was selected for the NESEP program and attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where he received a B.S. in Math and was commissioned as an Ensign in June 1970. He continued his naval career in the submarine service. The Navy sent him to postgraduate school at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts where he achieved a Master of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and an Ocean Engineer in 1979. He was assigned to Charleston Naval Shipyard from June 1979 - August 1982; COMSUBLANT in Norfolk, Virginia from August 1982 - May 1984. He completed his naval career aboard the Submarine Tender Frank Cable in Charleston SC from May 1984 - July 1985. He served honorably in the Navy for 22 years, retiring as Commander.
After retiring from the Navy he pursued careers in education by teaching high school math, physics, and chemistry and becoming an assistant principal of a middle school in Macedonia, South Carolina.
He became a member of Masonic Lodge No. 113 AF and AM in Concordia, Kansas March 1966. He obtained the 32nd Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite in Charleston SC on April 3, 1982.
In his free time he worked on remodeling our home. He also enjoyed golfing and fishing at the coast.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and faithful friend.
Services will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio Texas on Monday, November 21, 2016 at 3:00 p.m.
