Beaver and I also shared a Centenary College and a Monroe, LA connection. We met at Centenary in 1975 and were part of the same informal friend group. He was a pleasure to hang with whether during meals in the cafeteria, shooting hoops in Haynes Gym or chatting with Dorothy Horton, Sexton Dorm Mother, in her apartment. Beaver was a good man with a BIG heart, a contagious sense of humor and an engaging storytelling ability! He loved his family and his country deeply! Although our post-Centenary paths were very different, we touched base from time-to-time over the years. I only learned of his passing late Monday, August 29, 2022. I miss him and regret we hadn't circled back with one another in 2021. Even so, I take comfort in the knowledge that we'll see each other again "some glad morning...!" My sincere condolences to Beaver's family. I pray that they find peace and comfort in their memories of him.

My wife Margaret and I are high school classmates of Beaver’s. I first met Beaver at summer baseball try outs in 1969. He and I kept in touch through the years.  He was so happy to be a father and grandfather and I know that he was very dedicated and loving. At our last class reunion in 2016 we honored Beaver for his military service. I will never forget his reaction in which he cried tears of joy. Beaver was one of my best friends and I will miss him and will never forget his giving spirit and dedication to others. Margaret and I were unable to make the trip from New Orleans. We send our love to everyone in Beaver’s family. 


I met Bill in the summer of 1990 when we were classmates in the  Officer Advanced Course at The Academy of Health Sciences, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Upon graduation from OAC, we learned we would be classmates again when we were both selected to attend the program at The United States Army Medical Materiel Agency (USAMMA), Ft Detrick, Maryland.

While we only saw each other once since we graduated, we continued to keep in touch by email, text and phone.

 Bill was smart, loyal and had a generous heart.
 Bill was my friend, I will miss him but will not forget him.

I worked with Bill from my location on HMMWV ambulance issues  the last year and a half. He was very professional and knowledgeable and cared deeply about his program and the Army and the country. Condolences to his family.

Frank and I were blessed to meet Bill in 2014 when our kids met at Judson. What followed was a great friendship and we valued all the Dante dinners, birthday celebrations and other impromptu gatherings.  Unfortunately, we had not seen Bill (as a group) in a year or so and we so missed him. I had been fortunate enough to see him in the Fall, but it was a short business visit only.  Both of us treasured him and his stories and it makes us so sad that whatever the reason we drifted we didn't get to see you before you passed.  You were truly a one of a kind and you raised a beautiful, smart and kind daughter.  God Bless you, our friend. We will miss you Bill, more than you will ever know. 

Hello. My name is Ed Penton. I met “beaver” at Centenary College in 1978. Unbeknown to either of us at time, we had similar roots in the beaver grew up in Monroe, La., and attended St. Fredrick High School, which was right across the street from my uncle and aunt’s house. They knew one another; moreover, the all attended 1st Methodist Church in Monroe.

I have always called him beaver. Some call him billy, either way that time started a life long friendship. Although we didn’t get to see each other often, we always talked on the phone a couple times a month. 

The last time I talked to him was January 13, the day I buried my mom. He was in good spirits but obviously a little nervous about recently retiring. We always laughed and joked and no matter what kind of day I was having, I was always better with a big smile after talking to him.

If I may, I will say that in all of our conversation we always check in on each other’s family affairs. My buddy beaver always beamed with pride when talking about his daughter, Monica. She always made him so proud.

I am thankful to have read through all the eulogies and memories posted here about my buddy beaver. They  all hit the nail on the head. I have no doubt that he tried his absolute best to look out for those working for him in the Army, as wells as others he met walking down the road of life.

In closing, to you my great friend Beaver, you are missed and were love by many. However, your race is over as you sit in the presence of God. There are many others there that you know and are no doubt excited to see you. I cannot tell you goodbye because that just wouldn’t be true. What I can tell you is, “I’ll see you later”. Love you

Bill was my Boss at the AMEDD Battle Lab from '96-'98.  We shared an small office (very small) and sat back-to-back.  He was hard working, thoughtful, and dedicated to our Army.  We were basically unsupervised and shared many laughs while working on the Army's Force XXI initiative.  Bill was a steady burn.  He consistently produced quality, well-staffed, products.  Much of our current brigade and battalion medical unit design and equipment is Bill's legacy.  Thanks, Boss.  Rest easy.  

I met Bill in 2006. He was a stakeholder in a project in which I was also involved. It led to a 15-year friendship. He was a consummate professional and a good friend. I will miss him, his wisdom, and humor. My sincere condolences to Bill’s family.

I am just so saddened by Bill's passing. He was a mentor to me when I first joined the Office of the Surgeon General. I truly enjoyed our long telephone conversations as he passed on his knowledge and expertise to help me assimilate into Army Medicine. His talks were always filled with stories and the history that made learning about the programs we were discussing much more interesting. He will be missed.

Tragic news about Bill I just learned this morning.  Bill and I shared an apartment when we were both much younger, brand new Second Lieutenants in the Army.  Bill was genuine, forthright, and honest in all he did.  Bill and I stayed in touch over many decades, and would trade stories of our adventures and those of our families.  He dedicated his life to his family, friends and the Army, and I am so very grateful I was able to share our time together.  

My sincerest sympathies to Bill's family.  He was a great guy and a good friend.  I had the opportunity to work with him the many years I was in combat development and since I've moved to DC, our Army Office at the Surgeon General used him as our "Go to Guy" with so many AMEDD issues.  Can't tell you how many times I reached out to him and ALWAYS got back great answers that could be used to support important issues that we were working for the AMEDD.  He was a Rock Star and will be greatly missed by many people across the Army.  I can still hear his laugh....

Bill's commitment to duty and passion for his work and the wounded Soldier was both unwavering and admirable. It was an honor to work with him, even from afar. He will be missed, but not forgotten. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. -Mike Pouncey

Bill was always a neutral part  in life change!!A good honorable man!  Will surely miss him!!

Bill was a colleague of mine for the last 4 years. He was a mentor and friend. I will cherish his wisdom and willingness to share his vast knowledge.

Some people you meet and you click with them  from the get go, Bill was one of those people to me! We become fast fiends. We talked all the time on  phone and every time we went to San Antonio he made sure to see us. Also he came often to our house. When my Jenny died in a car accident, Bill is the one that broke the news to me.
 He was a very smart caring man. My family and I will surely miss him. I will miss his phone calls. RIP our friend, love you!
