The Gentle Aunt

With my own memories slowly fading away I still remember Aunt Susan as a kind and gentle person who always wished me well. She had a kind spirit who made everyone feel fortunate to be able to enjoy one another at family gatherings. She always brought the delightful food and helped with preparing to feed others. 

It sadden me to watch her through yearly photos of the degeneration she went though and the loss of her husband. But her spirits seemed to be strong and diligent with her family around her to bring enjoyment into her life.

I imagine those close to her are feeling extreme heartbreak and from messages I have recently read they will be surrounded by compassionate friends and family. Unfortunately I cannot be at the rosary to give my hugs and support where can only write my thoughts and feelings of consolation and remembrance.  I always seen her happy with with a big smile on her face and that is how I want to remember her by.

I was blessed to have Aunt Corky in my life growing up in San Antonio.  I have wonderful memories of her trying to teach me to dance.  Aunt Corky always made time for me when we would go visit grandma and grandpa.  I loved watching her dance and wanted to be just like her.  I remember she would put on  Chubby Checker’s song “The Twist” and would tell me to watch her so I could learn.  She was a work of art as she moved in perfect rhythm with a giant smile on her face and then patiently watch me try.  We would laugh after I tried to do the twist and she would say “ Ok, maybe next time you can try again!”  She was so much fun and I felt so special because she took time to hang out with me.   
She also made me feel special every time  we went to her house and had “beauty shop” days while there.   She always had good snacks, music playing, and lots of talking with my mom.  She would perm, cut, and dry my hair and ask me with a big smile if I felt pretty after she finished her magic.  Of course I always did.
I feel blessed to have loving happy memories like that.   
My deepest sympathy to her family and all who loved her so much.  
Rest in peace Aunt Corky and thank you for all the smiles and laughter you gave us.

My heart is full of sadness on the passing of your mother and my aunt.  My best memories of her were the Friday afternoons we gather at Grandma and Grandpa’s house.  It wasn’t a large group, usually me, my Mom, Aunts Stella and Corky (Susan].  We all were there to gossip, tell stories, get family updates but especially to spend time with each other.  Grandma usually, actually I should say always had something for us to eat.  There was always a lot of talking, sometimes all at once, and a lot of laughter and love.

I also remember when Corky would cut and style our hair for us.  It was so nice to have someone in the family to do our hair.  She did mostly my Mom’s with the big teased updos and French buns.  She always made by Mom’s hair look stylish.  She even styled my hair in a half up ponytail and rest in a flip….boy was looking good that day.

Love you Aunt Susan!  You will always have a special place in my heart.

So difficult to write , so many wonderful memories of my younger sister Susan . She was such a happy child , playful with a big smile and stories of her day activities. Sometimes tales of her other sisters … She grew up with a beautiful soul , so considerate always asking about one’s health , our parents especially… our get togethers with the kids there were so special.  She married and raised a beautiful family that that she was so proud of and was ready to share stories of their activities..  Now God has called you in his grace ; the heartache , pain we feel  is temporary. Because your memory will live in our Hearts and you are in Gods paradise , and  your children reflect your soul .. . Till we meet again ..love  brother Ernest and  Maria ,
