We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Susan Benz Shaughnessy on April 9th at her home in San Antonio, Texas. She was a beloved wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin and friend. She is survived by her husband of nearly 44 years, Kevin along with her three children Daniel, Megan and Liam, their spouses Carol and Michael and her five grandchildren Nolan, Wyatt, Sean, Saoirse and Claire.
Susan will be remembered for her unique thoughtfulness, sense of humor, patience and strength. She had a great love of the outdoors that began in her youth and continued across decades of traveling, hiking and biking with Kevin. Throughout her life, her dedication to her husband and children was a constant presence with both large and small acts of love and support. She shared an incomparable bond with her grandchildren who called her Zuzu. They each reveled in Zuzu’s love, storytelling, playfulness and pride.
Susan passed peacefully nearly two years after a cancer diagnosis. She handled each phase of her treatment with the same humor, toughness and consideration for others with which she lived her life. The friendship and kindness she received, particularly in her final months, meant the world to her.
