Born October 2, 1943 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Sergio was a man like no other. With his unforgettably powerful voice, he was at his funniest when being brutally honest, and always had a nickname ready for you.
Sergio spent two years in Seminary school before being spotted by a scout who convinced him to play semi-professional soccer. Following a knee injury, he went into professional bodybuilding and was selected “Mr. San Luis Potosi” on more than one occasion.
Taking a job as a typesetter, he worked alongside his father and in his off time, enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Near the shop where he took it for maintenance lived the Martinez Leyva family, where he met Martha. Following a two-year courtship, they married August 29th, 1971. A few years later their first child, Veronica, was born.
Moving his young family to Harvey, Illinois, Sergio became a U.S. citizen, and the couple had two more daughters, Rita and Susie. There they met the Muñozes, who became an extension of his family and remain so to this day. After several years with Allied Tube, the Torres family returned to Mexico, then rejoined the Muñoz family in Houston where they would ultimately settle.
Throughout his life, Sergio worked hard to provide for his family, ensuring his daughters had a chance to go to college, develop independent and strong spirits, and to always remember the value and importance of treating everyone with respect and patience.
In retirement, Sergio enjoyed a life of leisure, watching soccer to his heart’s content, and spending time with family, friends, and neighbors. He was his grandkid's biggest fan when they played soccer, wrestled, ran track and swam. He also loved to sit on his porch and talk to neighborhood kids who often surrounded him to enjoy his chit chat and teasing as they made their ways home from school.
Sergio is reunited in Heaven with his parents Mama Tita and Papa Felitos and brothers Armando and Felix. The eldest of six siblings, is survived by a brother Ruben and sisters Martha and Estela, his wife Martha, daughters Veronica (Bryan), Rita (Bruce), and Susie (Devin) and grandchildren Gregory, Landon, Paul, Bennett, William, Catalina, Neal, Liliana, and Noah.
Mass to celebrate Sergio’s life will be held in Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church (18511 Klein Church Rd, Spring, TX 77379) on Friday, June 16th, 2023 at 11am.
