Sandra (Sandy) June Hernandez, 66, of San Antonio, TX, entered the kingdom of heaven on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 in Kyle, TX. Eldest child of the Hernandez children, Sandy was born on December 8, 1953 in San Antonio, TX where she grew up and attended St John Berchmans Catholic School, Blessed Sacrament Academy High School and San Antonio College.
She was the eldest child of the late Andrew (Sonny) Brendel Hernandez Jr. and Gloria (Mona) Berta Moran Hernandez. Wife of 20 years to the late Lloyd Francis Brown.
Sandy is survived by her three children, Kimberly Nichole Marmolejo and husband Vincent H. Marmolejo; Lloyd (Bubba) Francis Brown II; Andrew Brendel Hernandez III and Amanda Martinez. Her siblings, Gary Andrew Hernandez and wife Martha Hernandez, Sonya Lina Herrada and husband David Herrada, Vince Anthony Hernandez and Susie Avila, and David Lawrence Hernandez. As well as her 12 grandchildren, Nikolas Donovan, Gabriella Aralyn, Noah Vincent, Nathaniel Noel, Elisabeth Marie, Zooey Adelle, Callie June, Izayah, Maize, Matthew Lyric, Drew Alina, and Marley Rae, whom she loved and cherished very much.
Sandy was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, Tia (Aunt), godmother, niece, cousin, friend, co-worker, and business partner. Her love of family, friends, music, travels, and faith were the treasures of her life. She was blessed with a long working career in civil service which she valued and was extremely thankful for. Her career started at Kelly AFB in 1977. She worked at Lackland, Randolph, and Brooks AFB; and finally retired in June 2018.
She was always known as her mother’s “right-hand” and as the eldest, she was given the responsibility of taking care of her brothers and sister. This responsibility grew into a life-long love of caring for others and giving of herself. Sandy loved to cook and entertain. There wasn’t anything she couldn't cook! She loved family gatherings, sitting around the table reminiscing about family stories and looking at family pictures. She enjoyed going to the coast, watching musicals, animated movies and going to the theater. She was always down for throwing a barbecue or just getting together with friends over coffee, going to brunch or sharing a meal and a glass of wine.
Sandy was an avid softball player and bowler. She played women’s and co-ed softball for many years. She loved to bowl and played in many leagues, and on many teams. She was always the “anchor” bowler on our women’s national tournament traveling team, as well as other teams she bowled on. When Sandy retired from her softball days, she coached her children in CYO sports and continued to stay involved in their sports activities throughout her life. She served as “team mom” and was known as one of the best “spirit bag” makers.
Sandy loved to dance and sing; something the Hernandez kids learned from their parents, Uncle Butch and Aunt Tina. Growing up in the Hernandez household it was always filled with music, singing and dancing; and when Sandy started her family, she introduced, and carried on those same traditions in her home, with her family and grandchildren. She loved to karaoke, so much so, that she was a partner in a karaoke business. Sandy was a “social butterfly” always wanting to be out and about, meeting people, making friends, living, and always enjoying life to its fullest!
Sandra (Sandy) was described in many ways. These are some descriptions about Sandy shared by family, friends, and colleagues when they heard of her passing:
