Rolando was born in 1947 in General Teran, Mexico, where he lived on a ranch with his parents, brother, and five sisters. Rolando arrived in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 24, shortly after which he met the love of his life, Leticia, while working at Mi Tierra Cafe.
During their 48 years of marriage, Rolando and Leticia co-founded many businesses together. They owned West Avenue Floral for over 30 years and in their most recent venture, they partnered with their son as food vendors at Market Square. Whether he was showing San Antonio hospitality while waiting tables, delivering flowers to delighted customers, or serving delicious treats during Fiesta, Rolando always had a smile and laugh that made him a joy to interact with.
When he wasn’t hard at work, Rolando loved spending time with family and friends. He was a devoted father to his son Roland and his daughter Veronica and a wonderful “Grampy” to his beloved granddaughters Carolyna and Victoria. He was inseparable from his cousin Cruz, to whom he was almost a brother. Family was the cornerstone of his life. He was a wonderful son, brother, cousin, uncle and above all, father and husband.
To meet Rolando was to meet a new friend. Loyal and funny, he always had a joke to brighten your day. When he wasn’t hard at work, you could find him belting out a song at the grill, trying his luck at the casino, or joining whatever game or sport was being played nearby. His favorites were tennis, bowling, and softball.
Rolando is survived by his wife Leticia, his son Roland, daughter Veronica, son-in-law Carlos, granddaughters Carolyna and Victoria, and sister Emma Hilda.
He was preceded in death by his parents Aurelio and Elvira, his brother Ramon, and his sisters Flor, Lupita, Leony, and Juanita.
A funeral service and rosary for Rolando will be held Friday, April 29, 2022, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home located at 1701 Austin Highway San Antonio, TX 78218, followed by a committal service at the adjoining Sunset Memorial Park at 3:00 pm.
