Robert Gregory Navarijo, age 80, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away with his family by his side on Monday, February 21, 2022. Robert was the third of eight children born to Frank and Consuelo Navarijo on January 16, 1942. Also known as Bob, Bobby, and Bobbito, he graduated from Tech High School in 1960 and served honorably as a San Antonio Police Officer from 1963 to 1984. Shortly before his retirement from the police department, he opened Mucho Taco restaurant on Cupples Rd. and served delicious Mexican food for 16 years. Robert was married to Teresa Garza Navarijo for 59 years and together they raised four children. Their family grew to include seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Robert was an avid golfer, enjoyed family trips to Port Aransas each summer, loved fishing, working in the yard, and family gatherings, especially barbecues and New Year's Eve parties. He enjoyed being a member of the Knights of Columbus, served as an usher at Holy Rosary Catholic Church for many years, and was an active member of the San Antonio Police Officer’s Organization. Robert was a sharp dresser and always ready to tell a joke. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, and brother. He will be dearly missed, but his legacy will live on through his family and the many wonderful memories they created over the years.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rebecca Navarijo; brothers, Joe Navarijo and William Navarijo. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Navarijo; four children, Laura Ortega (Conrad), Robert Navarijo, Jr., Patrick Navarijo (Stephanie), and Raquel Navarijo; brother, Frank Navarijo; four sisters, Carolyn Rigely, Diana Navarijo, Christine Navarijo, and Marisa Navarijo; seven grandchildren, Derek, Ciara, Juliana, Robert, Royce, Sophia, and Cristian; six great-grandchildren, Eli, Summer, Liam, Bennett, Hallie, and Kylie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2022 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM at Roy Akers Funeral Home, 515 N Main Ave, San Antonio, Texas. A funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 for a mass at 11:00 AM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 159 Camino Santa Maria, San Antonio, Texas 78228 with entombment to follow at San Fernando 2 Cemetery, 746 Castroville Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78237.
