He was born to Jack and Maria (Saenz) Forey in La Grulla, Texas on August 7, 1932. Rene’s childhood years were spent in his beloved hometown of Roma, Texas with his seven brothers and two sisters. Being surrounded by siblings, cousins, and neighborhood friends, he often looked back on his childhood with great fondness.
At a young age, he learned the value of hard work from his parents while working in fields and alongside his father at their auto repair shop. He gained knowledge that he willingly shared with friends and family and was a valuable resource for anything related to automobiles.
Rene served his country in the United States Army after the Korean War where he was stationed in Korea. After serving in the military, Rene lived and worked in San Antonio while attending St. Mary's University. He would later complete his studies and earn his Associate Degree in Computer Technology.
Rene began his career at Kelly AFB in 1955 working as a computer operator.
It was here at Kelly AFB where he met Olga Coronado who had just begun working as a key punch operator. On December 7, 1958, Rene and Olga were married.
His career advanced from computer operator to computer programmer where he retired from Kelly AFB in 1987.
He lived a life of service to others, ever humble and always happy to help in any way he could. Rene's kindness and generosity were felt by all who knew him, and his selflessness and humility were among his most admirable qualities. He was an active member of the Edgewood Lions Club, where he dedicated his time and energy to serving the community. Rene also volunteered for Meals on Wheels, assisting those in need and spreading joy through his warm smile and kind words. He enjoyed taking his grandkids along for Meals on Wheels deliveries and continued to volunteer well into his 80’s. Spending time with his eleven grandchildren at their school and sporting events was some of his most enjoyable times.
Rene and Olga were parishioners of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church for more than 60 years.
Rene lived a full and beautiful life. Blessings and grace were given to him. His legacy is his Faith and his devotion to his family, his wife, his children, and his grandchildren.
