Raymond Marshall Knowles

June 19, 1938 - September 5, 2023

Raymond M. Knowles passed away in San Antonio, TX, Tuesday September 5, 2023 at the age of 85. Born and raised in Quincy, IL to a large family, which included 12 amazing siblings. He loved each of them dearly, making efforts to visit often throughout the years.

He is preceded in death by 10 of his siblings, and 2 sons- Raymond Marshall Knowles Jr. and John Edward Knowles. He is survived by his wife- Maria A. Knowles, sisters- Mildred Lovelace and Norma Cook, son Thomas Dean Knowles (wife- Monica), grandchildren- Marshall Thomas Knowles, Monroe Dean Knowles, Mason John Knowles, Raymond M. Knowles III (wife-Temprest), and great grandchildren- Raymond M. Knowles IV and Alesiah G. Knowles.

At the early age of 19, he joined the United States Army where he served as an M.P. for 6 years. During that time, he was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX. As a result of his stay, he decided that Texas would forever be called HOME.

Raymond had remarkable work ethic. As a result, he worked construction for Heath Contractors where he retired after 31 years of service.

Raymond partook in many hobbies alongside Mary, his wife of 51 years. Among these hobbies were golf, Woodworking, horse riding, gardening and riding motorcycles. His most treasured hobby was woodwork, which he used to lovingly build many things for his grandsons.

A man with the love of many things, few stood out quite as much as his love for music. Music was woven into the fabric of his daily life, Raymond was often found listening to Country music, singing and dancing along to the beat. In fact, he loved music so much, he learned and would play along on his harmonica or guitar. These are the memories that will forever live on, playing rhythmically in the hearts of those who loved him.

A public visitation for Raymond will be held Friday, September 22, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78238, followed by a memorial service from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
