Raymond was a man of integrity who loved God, family, his country and life. He was an example of God’s grace and love. He walked with Christ and shared Christ with others by the life he lived. He was a dedicated father and husband who taught his children and grandchildren many valuable lessons. Ray was a man of many talents who enjoyed the outdoors especially salt-water fishing. He had a wonderful smile and sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his sons John Alexander Gamboa and Stephen Gamboa; Mr. Gamboa is survived by his wife Evangelina R. Gamboa; children, Richard Gamboa (Gail), Gloria Cardenas (Pete), Gloria Cardenas (Jerry), Teresa Ovalle(Frank), Stephen Gamboa, Raymond Gamboa, (Donna), Virginia Boyer (Mike), Nick Gamboa (Omega), Michelle Ruiz (Robert), Tina Duffy (Joe), John Gamboa (Denise), Christine Cavazos (Rick), Mercedes Briones; grandchildren Ryan, Natalie, Danette, Danny, David, Steve, Carlos, Lisa, Claudia, Jennifer, Veronica, Lori Anne, Stephanie, Angela, Chanel, Michael, Amanda, Robert Jr., Yvonne, Samantha, Stephen, Katherine, Elijah, Damian, Zoe, Chloe, Yori, Giovanni, Donovan, Annie, Ricky, Christian and 15 great grandchildren; siblings, Nick Lopez and Cruz Contreras (Ray).
Mr. Gamboa served 23 years in the 82nd Airborne of United States Army earned the Battle of the Bulge Metal, Bronze Star, Purple Heart recipient and participated in D-day invasion during World War II. He served in the Korean Conflict and was a part of the liberation of concentration camps in Germany. After military retirement, he worked 11 years Civil Service at Fort Sam Houston.
He also was a dedicated member of St. Theresa of the Little Flower, DAV organization-Chapter 25, Knights of Columbus, Military Order of the Purple Heart and VFW Post 8936.
A visitation will begin 4:00 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 2012 with a 7:00 p.m. rosary to be recited at Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Rd. A procession will depart the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Friday, August 31, 2012 for a 10:45 a.m. mass at Little Flower Church. Serving as pallbearers Robert Ruiz, Jerry Cardenas, Frank Ovalle, Wesley Riddell, Mike Boyer and Joe Duffy. Interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
