Ralph Thomas Looney, age77, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, July 15th, 2019. Ralph was born on February 19th, 1942 in Luxora, Arkansas to Freeland “Pete” Looney and Mildred Marie Looney. Ralph served in the United States Air Force from June, 1961 to May, 1965. While serving in the United States Air Force, Ralph met and married the love of his life, Valerie Lois Rupert Looney on June 1st, 1962. Ralph and Valerie had their first child, Stephen Wayne Looney on August 29th, 1963 and their second child, Deborah Ann Looney on April 8th, 1965.
Ralph joined the San Antonio Police Department in 1965. In 1973, Ralph joined the Secret Service in Washington, DC. He served as a secret service agent at the White House for 1 year and realized his true calling was law enforcement. Ralph and his whole family moved back to San Antonio, Texas and he rejoined the San Antonio Police Department. Ralph transitioned from patrol officer to finger print examiner with the police department in 2000. Ralph retired from the police department in October, 2010. Ralph received recognition and was honored for many outstanding achievements throughout his career. Ralph was a loyal and devoted officer with the heart to serve and protect.
Ralph, a good ole’ country boy--developed the love for fishing, hunting and the great outdoors at a very young age. That love continued his whole life. He was an avid fisherman, joining the S.A.P.D. Bass Busters early in his career. Ralph held positions with the Bass Busters and was devoted to helping many children’s groups experience the joy of fishing and nature. He made lifelong friends with the people he met in the Bass Busters as well as coworkers on the police force.
Ralph was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Ralph is preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Mildred Looney; his wife, Valerie Lois Looney; his son, Stephen Wayne Looney; his sister, Joyce Rickard; and his brother, Fred Looney.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Debbie) Weber; son in law, Ken Weber; 2 grandsons, Randy Weber and Jordan Weber.
Ralph loved celebrating life with his family, whether it was going to the lake, going out to dinner, watching a movie, playing games, having a BBQ, celebrating the holidays or birthdays. Ralph’s loving spirit and kindness always showed. He cherished his family. He also loved all of his many dogs and cats through the years.
He will be dearly missed by all!
