Oscar was born in Monterrey, NL on October 20, 1939. He was married to the love of his life, Emma Galindo López, building a loving home for 57 years.
Oscar P. López, began his career, as a child, assisting his mother at their family bakery, until graduating from Sidney Lanier High School. Furthering his education at San Antonio College, was very important to him but shifted in order to help support his family, as the oldest of seven siblings. He continued his journey as the Men’s Department Manager at Joske’s Las Palmas and as Department Manager at Montgomery Wards. His sales expertise proved successful as he opened the first Storehouse Furniture Store in San Antonio. He furthered his career, until retirement, as the Assistant to the Director of Community Initiatives of San Antonio for 28 years.
He was known as a gentleman who was never idle, continually seeking to better his community. He was a founding member of the Las Casas Foundation, helping revitalize the Majestic Theater, the Past President of the Inman Christian Center, Founding Member and Past Treasurer of the Thompson Neighborhood Association, Past Officer of the Gem and Mineral Society, a Member and Deacon of the Iglesia de Dios Mi Refugio for 52 years, and an Election Judge
He was well-known in the community for having a servant’s heart, lending a hand and helping those in need. He organized and distributed food, toys, clothing, and school supplies to citizens locally and in Mexico. He was ready to assist any way he could, serving with love and humility. “Well done, good and faithful servant!”
He had a passion for so many things. He enjoyed trying new restaurants, no matter how far, and taking friends with him. He dabbled in cooking recently, naming himself Chef OP. He enjoyed photography, taking pictures of beautiful scenery and of family events. He was never shy around a camera, ready with a smile. His love of Snoopy grew to an enormous collection, ready with his Snoopy t-shirt for every occasion. His sense of humor would brighten the room and bring laughter to all present. He was greatly loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jesus Natividad López, Rebecca Paredes Elizalde, and his brother Raul Paredes Elizalde.
He is survived by his wife Emma Galindo López, his daughter Sandra López Garza (Mario Jr.) and his son Hector G. Lopez (Claudia). His grandchildren Adrianna E. Garza, Mario L. Garza III, and Michell López. His brother Eleazar P. Elizalde (Sue) and his sisters Yolanda Nieto (Anastacio), Rosa Castro, Elia Dominguez, Hilda Griep (Edward) and a host of extended family and friends.
