Murray James Hacker passed into eternal rest on May 5, 2017. He was born on July 31, 1934 to Grady and Marcella Biediger Hacker in San Antonio, Texas. Murray was a kind and jolly man who loved life, and never met a stranger. He enjoyed building things, grilling in his backyard, riding motor scooters, skydiving, spending time with his family and friends, and his dogs. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sarah “Patty” Townsend Hacker, son Michael D. Hacker, sister, Jeanette Hacker Barron and brother-in-law John F. Graham. He is survived by his children Cheryl Hacker Mueller, M.D. and husband Francis W. Mueller, M.D., Murray J. Hacker, Jr. and DelAnne Baines, Jeanine Marie Hacker Olvera and husband Christopher J. Olvera, and daughter-in-law Suzanne Jaimes. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Evelyn Townsend Graham and brother-in-law Buddy Barron, grandchildren Brian Mueller and wife Jeanette, Matthew Mueller and wife Lauren, Kevin Mueller and wife Nicole, Alyssa Hacker Salinas and husband Robert, Christopher Ray Olvera, and William James Olvera; great-grandchildren Teagan, Tate, Keira, and Kinley Mueller; three nieces and a nephew, his many dear friends, especially Dr. Neva Medcalf, and his faithful canine companion“Tiny.” The family wishes to thank his caregivers Orie , Mireya, and Lucy.
Murray was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and St. Mary’s University. He served on various Texas State Board of Insurance councils, Northside Independent School District board committees, and several terms on the City Council of Leon Valley. He was instrumental in creating the Leon Valley Fire Department and served as its first Commissioner, and was King Leo VI of Leon Valley. He will be lovingly remembered for his big smile and hearty laugh as well as his generosity. He would have loved to buy the world a beer!
A Rosary will be held at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road on Thursday, May 11 at 7:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. A private family burial will take place Friday morning. The funeral mass will be held Prince of Peace Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. The family will hold a Murray-style party – a Celebration of his Life on Friday, May 12. More details will be announced as they become available, and at the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate gifts to the City of Leon Valley, the Leon Valley Fire Department, or Prince of Peace Catholic Church, and would enjoy plants to grow in remembrance of him.
