REED Mildred Ethel Swensen Reed was born in Cambridge, MA on 22 December 1924 to Howard F. Swensen and Ethel R Dykens and passed away in San Antonio, TX on 13 December 2016, just 9 days shy of her 92nd birthday. After raising four children, she returned to school and earned a Master’s Degree from Incarnate Word College. She completed a 35 year career in Nursing at the Audie L Murphy Memorial VA Hospital, retiring in 2012 at age 87. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Joe Reed, Jr. MSGT, USAF, Retired, and her siblings Frederick A Swensen and Phyllis E Swensen Cunningham. Surviving are her children Phyllis and husband Joseph Mazur, Jean and her husband Russ Lane, Michael Reed and Joan and her husband Lamar Sheedy; Grandchildren Debbie, Diane, Suzanne and Branden; Great Grandchildren Blake, Drew, Katie, Tyler, Mason and Clara; and Great-Great Grandchildren Cadence and Leonidas. Graveside services are scheduled for 0900 on Tuesday, 20 December 2016 at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to your favorite charity in Mildred’s name.
