Mary R. Ward

She is survived by her children Michael and Rosemary Ward of San Antonio. She was married to the late Col. Clarence D. Ward, Retired USAF. Mary graduated from A.W. Jackson High School in Rosenberg, Texas. She graduated with a bachelor’s from Prairie View A&M University. While in college Mary was a member of the Alpha Pi Mµ Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Mµ National Honor Society. Mary was a public-school teacher for over 30 years, the last 23 of which she worked at Stewart Elementary in San Antonio.

She will be remembered for her tireless work on behalf of her students and for her warmhearted relations with her colleagues. Through her husband’s military service, Mary was able to live on the east coast, the west coast, and in Istanbul, Turkey. Mary enjoyed a warm family life, the center of which involved her fantastic cooking.

A visitation for Mary will be held Sunday, September 19, 2021, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78218. A funeral service will occur Monday, September 20, 2021, at 10:00 AM, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78218. An interment service will occur Monday, September 20, 2021, at 11:30 AM at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78219. The family does request guests to wear masks.
