Mary Esther Rodriguez

Mary Esther Rodriguez, born October 4, 1944 in San Antonio, Texas went to be with the Lord on March 10, 2024 at the age of 79. The oldest of ten children, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and community servant who enjoyed giving her time to help those in need.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Isabel and Josefa Sanchez; siblings, Victor Sanchez, Felipe Sanchez, Apolonio "Paul" Sanchez, Adela Gallardo, William Sanchez, Tomas Sanchez and granddaughter, Marisa Macias.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Ramon E. Rodriguez; children, Elizabeth Rodriguez (Estuardo) and Rosalinda Macias (Henry); grandchildren, Maria Isabella Rodriguez, Valencia Rodriguez, Fidel Macias, Nicolas Rodriguez, Abram Macias and Emilio Macias; and sisters, Angelita Wolfe, Roberta Valdez and Yolanda Alexander.

Mary Esther began teaching religious education at El Carmen Catholic Church when she was just 19 years old and eventually became the Director of Religious Education. For decades, she worked to instill and strengthen the role of faith in the lives of children in the same manner that faith guided her life. She cherished her church family, also having served an active role in the parish’s Ladies of Charity, Altar Society, and Guadalupanas.

She loved tending to her garden or “matitas” as she called her flowers, spending time with friends and family, and was always willing to help, listen, comfort, or encourage anyone in need. Mary Esther’s grandchildren were her greatest pride and joy. She relished her role as a grandmother and loved celebrating every milestone and creating beautiful memories with her family.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 5:00 PM - 10:00 PM at Trevino Funeral Home, 2525 Palo Alto Rd, 78211 with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. On Friday, March 15, 2024 a Mass of Resurrection will be Celebrated at 11:00 AM at El Carmen Catholic Church with interment to follow at El Carmen Catholic Cemetery.
