Mary Nell Kupfernagel

Mary Nell was born to Judd and Emily DeGroat on September 3, 1934 in San Antonio, TX. When Mary Nell was younger, her favorite activities were roller skating and sewing. She attended Brackenridge High School in San Antonio, TX. She married Frederick Allin Kupfernagel on May 23, 1953 and was blessed to build a family with their two daughters.

She had a long career as an insurance agent, working for several insurance agencies, to include L.E. Fite, Richard Gill and other general agents. During retirement she worked as a companion, driver and caretaker.

Mary Nell enjoyed spending her time making memories with her family and friends. She loved fishing, bowling, cooking, and playing dominoes. Most of all, Mary Nell had a passion for the Lord. Her relationship with Jesus was her most important calling in life. She loved reading her Bible every morning and spending Sundays worshiping God at Grace Bible Chapel. She never let a day go by without speaking about how much God, her daughters, grandchildren and great grandson meant to her. She was a wonderful mother, Memaw, and prayer warrior for her family.

Mary Nell was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Fred Allin Kupfernagel, her parents Judd and Emily DeGroat, her sister Joy Roberts, and her brother Judd DeGroat Jr.

Mary Nell is survived by her daughters Nancy Howell (Danny) and Ronda Dudley (Cliff). She will always be remembered as Memaw to her two grandchildren; Hollie Guilbeau (Jason) and Daniel “Hunter” Howell (Kayla); and her great grandson, Hayden Allin Guilbeau. She was looking forward to the arrival of Hadleigh Grace Guilbeau in April 2023.

There will be a private graveside service for the family at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. A celebration of life service will be held on December 16, 2022 for family and friends at Grace Bible Chapel on Redland Rd at 2 PM.
