Mary Alice Hurd

A department store buyer, master seamstress, puppet maker, cosmetologist, beauty supply owner, and beauty school director, Mary Alice wore many hats. Her favorite role was being a mom, not just to her 3 ornery kids, but to everyone. All her life she challenged norms and inspired her loved ones to follow their dreams. She loved crocheting, knitting and needlework, especially making toys for family, friends and to support her favorite charity the Society of St. Vincent DePaul. She was known for her big heart, straight talk, and her unyielding love and devotion to her husband and family.

Mary Alice is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert E. Hurd Jr.; children, Charles Hurd and wife Ruth Ann, Liz Hurd, William Hurd and wife Lynlie; grandchildren, Kayla Johnson, Salijah Johnson, Jacob Zeno, Naomi Hurd and Madolyn Hurd; great-grandchildren, Kyrie Jones, Xaki Arnold and Xyon Arnold; brother, John Knapp.

A celebration of life will be on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at:

Prince of Peace Catholic Church

All are welcome. Visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M. with a rosary at 1:30 P.M. and a funeral mass at 2:00 P.M.
