Our beloved Mary Evelyn Pierce Ahrens left us on earth on December 3rd, 2023, to be with our departed loved ones and our Lord. Mary was born in Freeport, Texas, on May 28th, 1945, and raised in Houston, TX. Mary graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston. She married Richard Skiles and had 3 daughters before moving to Del Rio, TX in May of 1971 where she later obtained her Real Estate License and insurance sales license, re-married to Larry Ahrens, and had 2 sons. Mary was in the real estate industry for 30+ years (earning several awards), then obtained a mortgage broker license and ran her own mortgage processing company before retiring. Larry, Mary and sons moved to San Antonio in 1988.
After retiring, Mary was able to enjoy time with grandchildren and great grandchildren, enjoy making jewelry and sewing then donating the items/proceeds to charities, painting, feeding snacks to the Amazon and various delivery people whom she contributed to their job security with her love for on-line shopping. Spending most of her time at home these last handful of years, Mary did not let that limit her neighborhood involvement with matching folks who needed service, with workers who could do the job. She enjoyed making a game and setting a goal for shopping to provide gifts to Blue Santa of San Antonio. Mary enjoyed time with her pastor and Bible Study friends from the New Hope Chapel, hosting and attending when she could. Mary and Larry enjoyed having their church friends over for lunch/dinner and/or gatherings. Pastor Randy Hatley put it best when he said, “despite Mary’s physical limitations, she found value in her life, and was always making plans”.
Preceding Mary in death were her parents William, Sr and Evelyn Pierce, brother William, Jr Pierce, husband Larry Ahrens and daughter Julie Skiles.
Mary is survived by her sister Jan Pierce, sister Helen Pierce, daughter Daina and husband Mike Slover, daughter Missy and husband Doug Christensen, sons Phillip Ahrens and Reagan Ahrens, 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas, on January 5, 2024, at 11:15 a.m., Shelter #3, with a celebration of life afterward (come and go) at the family home at 14815 Turkey Trail, San Antonio, Texas, 78832.
