Mark Anthony Guerra, 22 years old passed away peacefully on Monday, May 1, 2017 of brain cancer. He was surrounded by numerous friends and family who loved him dearly. Mark was born on August 15, 1994, and was known to everyone as a kind, loving and compassionate person. . He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Lucy Morales. He is survived by his parents, Marco & Elizabeth Guerra, sister, Bethany Helena Guerra, maternal grandparents, Adam & Mary Helen Cardenas, paternal Adam & Felipa Guerra and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He enjoyed music, family, the outdoors, sports and everything about life. Anyone who met Mark embraced his humor and kind heart. Mark was a Junior at UTSA, majoring in Music to accomplish his goal of becoming a Music Therapist. While he was undergoing Chemotherapy/Radiation, he was given the therapy of music to ease and relax during the treatments. It was at that moment he wanted to become a Music Therapist and help those with the same experience as he had.
Mark was diagnosed in 2012 and he was stable for 4 years, but unfortunately the cancer returned in May of 2016. Mark was the definition of a true warrior, continuing to stay positive every day of his life.
The family would like to thank Dr. Justo Cisneros, the nurses and staff with Hospice Compassus, for going above and beyond in caring for Mark. We would like extend our deepest gratitude to his Nurse Elaine Tovar, who not only was his nurse, but became a friend.
A Visitation will be held Monday, May 8, 2017, at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at St. Clare Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. with Interment to follow at First Memorial Park Cemetery.
