Mario Jose Vazquez, age 47, passed away December 11, 2019 in San Antonio, TX. He was born in San Antonio, TX on November 29, 1972 to Saul M. and Aurora E. Vazquez. He was a loving father, son, brother, and friend who will be dearly missed.
Mario taught for 10 years in local San Antonio school districts. He was a gifted teacher, most recently working with the roughest of the roughest kids in the alternative school program. Connecting with kids caught up in some of the most difficult circumstances is not easy, sometimes seemingly impossible. Mario was able to reach them. He never gave up on them.
Always willing to help friends in need, Mario rarely turned down a request to meet for help or just to talk. His many friends and family members will never forget his kindness, generosity and humility.
Family was always very important to Mario. And as everyone who knew him knows, there was nothing more important to Mario than his children. As a man of faith and service, Mario made it a priority to share those values with his boys through such things as working with or contributing to toy drives, the battered women’s shelter, or handing out food for the food bank. Most of all, Mario passed on to his sons the importance of sharing with and being there for one another and their family. His life and values will be forever cherished and continue on in the lives of his two boys.
Mario was preceded in death by his Grandparents: Jose Abelardo and Rosa Briones, Saul and Rosa Vazquez, and Uncle: Roberto A. Briones
He is survived by his children: Noah Saul and Isaiah Steven, his parents: Saul Mario and Aurora Elia Vazquez, his sisters: Rosa Elia (Aaron Lomas), Gisela (Christopher Mazuca), Elizabeth Reyes and Joseph Reyes, his Godparents: Oscar and Margaret R. Flores, aunts, uncles, cousins, additional loving relatives and many lifelong friends.
We would like to send a heartfelt “Thank You” to the Doctors and Special Nurses in the CVICU at the Methodist Hospital who cared for Mario during this critical time.
