Maria Luisa Medina, age 75 was called home to the Lord on Monday, December 11, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas surrounded by family. Maria was born in Laredo, Texas on January 14, 1948 to Teofilo and Fabiana Martinez.
Left behind to cherish Maria's memory is her loving husband, Roman Medina; her daughter, Ana Luisa Medina; sons, Roman Medina Jr. and his wife, Venessa, and Roel Rene Medina and his wife, Trish; and her sister, Elva Davila and her husband, David. Maria is also survived by her grandchildren, Ava Nessa Medina, Roman Jude Medina, and Emma Medina; and her furbabies, Bailey and Zoey.
Maria is greeted in Heaven by her father, Teofilo Martinez; mother, Fabiana Martinez; sister, Gloria Garza; brothers, Teofilo "Bebe" Martinez Jr., Manuel "Meme" Martinez, and Rene Martinez; and her furbaby, Max.
Maria graduated from Martin High School in Laredo, Texas in 1967. After graduation, she studied nursing with the Sisters of Mercy in Laredo, Texas and became a Charge LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse) for the Pediatrics Unit at Mercy Hospital. She was a devoted LVN for over 30 years at Mercy Hospital in the Pediatric Unit in Laredo, Texas. She was loved and appreciated by all her patients and peers. After retiring from Mercy Hospital, she continued her career educating future medical professionals at Texas Careers / Kaplan College. She retired full-time and moved to San Antonio once her first granddaughter, Emma was born in 2015. Shortly after, her second granddaughter, Ava was born in 2017 and her grandson, Roman Jude was born in 2018. She cared for all of her grandkids, and they were her world. She was always willing to help her family and always wanted to take care of her three beautiful grandchildren.
Maria enjoyed the simple things in life, to gardening and tending to her plants, to spending time with her dogs, Bailey and Zoey. She loved spoiling her grandchildren and she loved to cheer on her Spurs at the numerous games she attended as a season ticket holder.
Maria was completely devoted to her family. She was always willing to help anyone in need. She led a selfless life and did everything she could to make her children and family happy.
Maria was married to her soulmate and the love of her life in 1974. They had been married for 49 years. She was a simple lady that was very caring and loving. Family was the most important thing to her. She was loved by so many and her passion and patience in nursing touched so many lives. Her coworkers would say she was a very hard-working and great person whom everyone loved. Everyone loved how she just took everything with such peacefulness and calmness.
Most of all, Maria will be remembered for being a loving wife, mom, and grandmama. Her grandchildren were everything to her and she would be as silly as them. She loved making them laugh and taking care of them.

Sharon, MD and staff.

A visitation for Maria will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232 with a Rosary and Vigil at 7:00 PM. There will be a final viewing at Sunset North Funeral Home, Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 8:30 AM to 9:45 AM with a funeral procession at 10:00 AM to go to St Mark The Evangelist Catholic Church, 1602 Thousand Oaks Dr, San Antonio, TX 78232 for a 10:30 AM Funeral Mass. There will be a funeral procession after Mass for the committal service from 12:15 PM to 12:45 PM at San Fernando Cemetery II, 746 Castroville Rd, San Antonio, TX 78237.
