Maria Amelia Garza, age 94, affectionately known to many as “Mary” and “Melly”, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2020 in Burleson, Texas. She was born on December 16, 1925 to Teodoro and Eufemia Garza in San Antonio, Texas.
At the age of 17, “Melly” went to work at Kelly Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas during WWII where she worked as a mechanic on military aircraft ranging from the B-29, Super Fortress to the C130, Hercules, and where she performed those duties, in the service of her country, until the late 1970s when she retired to care for her aging parents.
“Melly” loved her time with family, loved to travel, and most of all loved the sea and sand. She spent her life traveling to the beaches of Texas, Florida, Mexico, and even the beaches of United Kingdom of Great Britain. But most of all, Melly will be remembered for her kind and lovely smile, her sense of humor, her dedication to family, and her adventurous spirit.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Raul Garza, Candelario Garza and Hector Garza; and nephew: Robert Guerrero.
She is survived by her sister: Oralia Garza; numerous nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Due to restrictions on public gatherings, the visitation for Maria at Roy Akers Funeral Home-515 North Main Ave. 78205- will be limited to 50 people in the building at a time. There will be a public visitation period on Saturday, October 17, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a memorial service at 2:30p.m.
