Margaret Ruiz Torres, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and friend; passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 10, 2020. Margaret was born on Father’s Day, June 15, 1947 at San Rosa Hospital in San Antonio, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents, Juan Segura Torres and Maria Ruiz Torres, brother Gilbert Torres and sister Ernestine Valdez. She is survived by her children Raymond C. Torres III (wife, Christie and grandchildren; Raymond IV, Lilyanna and Stephan), daughter Roxanne Torres Gutierrez (Husband, John David and grandchildren; John David Jr. and Madalynn). She is also survived by her siblings, Robert Torres, John Torres, Frank Torres, Ramiro Torres, Cecilia Valdez, Michael Torres, along with their spouses, many nieces and nephews.
She was the 2nd eldest of 9 children (6 boys and 3 girls). She attended St. Joseph Catholic School and then St. Francis Academy (SFA) Class of 1965. Margaret was very active in school socially having been a part of the following: a Princess in Court, Student Council Representative, Secretary and President her Senior year. She also LOVED sports; she was on the high school Powder Puff team, the Fast Pitch Softball team as Captain (4 years, 3rd Baseman/Relief pitcher), in basketball she was a forward (Captain, 4 years), an original and first Colonel of the LaSalle Falconettes Pep Squad but her most proud was being an Original SFA Cheerleader and also an Original LaSalle Cheerleader her Senior year.
Upon retiring from The Department of Veterans Affairs with over 30 years of service, she spent her time traveling, being an active member of SFA Alumni, volunteering with The School Sisters of St. Francis in Pittsburgh, PA as well as Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Austin, TX. Her greatest joy was being “Abuelita” to her amazing grandchildren. She enjoyed taking care of the kids, picking them up from school, attending school activities and LOVED going to all their sporting events. There is no doubt she will have the best seat in the house cheering them on from up above.
JD and Roxanne would like to thank our family and friends who offered to help look after mom when needed without hesitation. We would also like to express our deepest and heart felt gratitude to Capital Hospice Care in Austin for all their kindness, help and support through this difficult time.
