Margaret “Marty” Galloway passed away on January 15, 2011 at home. Mrs. Galloway was born August 2, 1926 in Akron, Ohio and moved to Memphis, Tennessee as a young child. In Memphis she met and married the love of her life, Jess Ryland Galloway in 1947. Marty faithfully supported her husband’s 30 years of service in the U.S. Army, making a home for their family in Thailand, Korea, Germany and various Army posts around the country. When Jess retired from the Army in 1977, they made their home in San Antonio. Marty’s love of books led her to work in U. S. Army post libraries in Germany and on Ft. Sam Houston, where she touched many lives with her friendly and kind nature. She will be missed by her family and the many friends she made during her life. Marty is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Isabel Finnin, her beloved husband, Jess, her brother, John Canarko and her daughter-in-law, Vicki Galloway. She is survived by her four children: Barry Galloway, Debra Schnelle, Mary Bailey and her husband, Gary, Chris Galloway and his wife, Kim, and her much adored grandchildren, Wayne and his wife, Lynley, Katie, Jessica , Hannah, and Ryland. The family will receive visitors this afternoon, Sunday, January 23rd, at 5pm followed by a Rosary at 6pm at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Helena’s Catholic Church at 10am on Monday, January 24th with Rev. Msgr. Leo Dolan celebrant. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
