You may think you had the best mom/sister/friend, and we’re sure she was lovely, but you’re wrong! Margaret Louse Barrett holds that title, and here’s why. She was up for anything and was always searching for her next adventure/scheme. She was smarter than you, even if you didn’t know it, and her wit was sharp enough to cut diamonds.
Among her many skills, she could Checker better than Chubby to The Twist, and she got down like Charlie Brown to Sam Cooke. Her bat-like hearing allowed her to hear for miles. She understood that you should have at least 12 different gadgets to cook eggs, that vinegar will take care of anything, and MSM should only be purchased by the metric ton. Margaret could make a 3 lb. meatloaf with only one pound of meat, and knew that when life hands you beans, you make bean rolls. She climbed 100 ft. ladders without flinching, and believed that shopping was an aerobic exercise.
She never had a bad hair day…ever…no really, ever. And she could sew a dress without a pattern and knit with her eyes closed.
She was a woman among men, working at both British Petroleum and DuPont in Victoria as an instrument technician for more than 25 years. She loved her work and the fun she had with “the guys.”
Above all the things that made her a character of historic proportion, she deeply loved her six children (Michael, Curtis, Rachael, Wesley, Ivy and Talitha), her gaggle of grandchildren, and her 11 brothers and sisters. She gave everything for her family and friends, and will be dearly missed.
Margaret passed away on Monday, September 19, surrounded by her family. Her life will be celebrated in San Antonio. Visitation will be 6-9 pm Thursday Sept. 22, 2016 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home in San Antonio, and mass will be held at St. Anthony Mary Claret on Friday, Sept. 23, 2016 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
