Lee Howard Smith, 75, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2014. He was born in New Britain, CT on September 21, 1939 to William Howard and Mildred Frawley Smith. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving from November 1958 until February 1962 which included service in Korea. Married to the love of his life Elva, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, he retired to San Antonio after 25 years at Aetna Life and Casualty as a software programming specialist and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Mr. Smith was also a 15 year member of the Memorial Services Detachment (MSD) Tuesday Squad, at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery and received a Proclamation from President Obama in recognition of his volunteer service to the MSD. In addition he was also recognized in a resolution from Joe Strauss, Texas Speaker of the House for his tenure with the MSD. He is included on Aetna's Life & Casualty's "Wall of Fame" commemorating milestone achievements in the company's history. He was an avid Notre Dame fan and was very proud of his Irish heritage.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elva Y. Smith; children, Sharon Diane Smith, Linda Michelle Smith, Robert Patrick Smith and wife Elizabeth and grandson, Patrick Michael Smith.
The visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2014 from 6:00 - 9:00 P.M. with a Rosary Service beginning at 7:00 P.M. that evening. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 12:15 P.M. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 600 Oblate with Rev. Jack O'Donohue as celebrant. The interment with military honors will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
