Lacey Rorier Whitten was born in Memphis, Tennessee on April 17, 1924 and passed away on March 24, 2011. He attended Central Catholic, Jefferson High School, and graduated from Alamo Heights High School. He was president of his freshman class at St. Mary’s University, and graduated with a degree in Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin in 1949. While attending the University of Texas, he was president of the Sphinx Club, the Honorary Architecture Club, and a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. Lacey was active with St. Vincent De Paul Society, and he and his wife were members of the Lamplighters, Revelers, and Town Club. He was instrumental in preparing the master building plan for Kelly Air Force Base before retiring in 1974. Lacey and his wife Jo Ann enjoyed remodeling older homes and their ranch in Johnson City. They continued doing everything together, including her antique business.
Lacey is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jo Ann, and their 5 children (Randy and wife Nancy, Caren and husband Themis Alyfantis, Jenise and husband John Shaver, Bradley and fiancée Leigh Beckendorf, Lacey P. and wife Kathleen). Lacey has one sister Maxine Blount. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather to fifteen grandchildren.
Private services will be held at graveside. A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, April 9, 2011 from 2pm-4pm at Sunset Funeral Home. The family would like to express their deep gratitude for the loving care Lacey received from the staff on Unit 6 at Morningside Manor.
