He was raised in the Rio Grande Valley and graduated in the top 10 of his class from Mission High School in 1989. While growing up in Mission, he and his sister lived next door and then across the street from his cousins Lisa, Jim and Bill Harrison. During his high school years, he enjoyed playing basketball and writing for the school paper. He attended Georgetown University in Washington, DC, where he graduated in 1993 with a degree in Finance and Accounting. Justin wanted to go away for college but his plan was always to come back to Texas to build his life.
He began his career with Ernst & Young LLP’s San Antonio office in the fall of 1993 and joined C.H. Guenther & Son in 2002 where he completed his career as Chief Financial Officer. He loved his work and made many lifelong friendships throughout his career. He met his wife Amy Shaw in 1997 and they were married in 2001, enjoying 23 years of happy marriage.
Justin and Amy were blessed with daughters Reagan and Catherine who soon became the center of their lives. Justin was a wonderful dad and he and the girls enjoyed everything from attending princess balls to hunting for pigs at the ranch. Justin, Amy and the girls loved to travel abroad, attend volleyball games, take beach vacations and spend time playing board games or sitting around the campfire at the ranch. Being with the family at the ranch was Justin’s happy place.
Justin is survived by his wife Amy and his daughters Reagan and Catherine. He is also survived by his mother Sharon Gray and his father Larry Grubbs, sister Monica Giuffre (Jason), half-sisters Sarah Lycans and Amanda Pedigo (Jason), 16 nieces and nephews, many cousins, in-laws, co-workers and friends.
