Juan enlisted in the United States Marines in May 1956 and received the Good Conduct Medal in 1957. He married Emma Reyes on June 28, 1961. He was very meticulous and was always pulling weeds and picking up debris. He wanted to leave a place in a better condition than he found it. Juan enjoyed sports, especially boxing, archery, and karate. He had artistic talent and could reproduce a portrait in complete detail. He demonstrated his talent in the many drawings he gave to his children and grandchildren. Numerous grandchildren have his artistic ability. What a beautiful legacy. Juan loved wildlife and enjoyed watching Wild Kingdom with his children every weekend. He was also affectionately called "Grampa Daddy" and "Grampa on the Farm" by several grandchildren. He helped his father who worked at a dairy farm in his youth and also on a friend's farm in his senior years.
He loved to travel especially to Fredericksburg, Pleasanton, and Losoya and his younger children would accompany him on many of his travels.
He became very spiritual in his later years and shared his Lord with his children and their families. He is remembered for blessing others in his midst. He always made the sign of the cross three times before and after prayer and before meals. He was an advocate for peace and encouraged his children to love one another, to be united, and to forgive each other.
