Joyce Stroman Johnson entered into eternal rest on Friday January 11, 2013, following a long battle with cancer. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on February 15, 1942. She attended Collins Garden Elementary School, Harlandale High School, and Southwest Texas Teachers College. Joyce was a cheerleader in high school and a Southwest Texas State Strutter. She also participated in the Thespian club. Joyce was a member of Coker United Methodist Church, also a member of Quester Sunday School class, as well as active in Reflections (United Methodist Woman’s Society) in various committees and the Assistance League of San Antonio. She was a former employee of USAA, Civilian Service, Military Banking and many other various agencies. She loved to travel and lived in Europe for over ten years. Joyce loved life to the fullest. She loved everyone she met and never met a stranger. She was always the life of the party. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She is survived by her loving husband Lee of 41 years, mother Lucille Stroman, brother Roy Stroman(Vicki), sisters Joanne Tomerlin (Homer), Lucille Milton (Frank), brother-in-laws Melvin Johnson, Tom Wisdom (Judy),sister-in-law Eva Kindley (Don), four children, Michelle Johnson, Gary Johnson(Sonya), Terri Cass(Gary), Robin Law(Troy), eight grandchildren Jennifer Gunderson(Nathan), Kelsey Brumfield, Jordan Johnson, Gary Johnson(Stephanie), Kimberly Heimann(Jeremiah), Brittany Cass, Tanner Law, Tyler Law, three great grandchildren Zech Heimann, Blayne Gunderson, Grayson Gunderson, numerous Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews and her beloved furry companion Rocky. She is preceded in death by her daughter Tracey Johnson, father Roy Stroman, brothers Dale and Robert Stroman and her first husband Jesse Wisdom (killed in action in Vietnam).
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday January 15th at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232. A celebration of life service officiated by Pastor Damon Relder will be held Wednesday January 16th at Coker United Methodist Church, 231 E North Loop Rd, San Antonio, TX 78216, at 11:00AM, with lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Assistance League of San Antonio, P.O. Box 1310, San Antonio, TX 78213.
