Joseph S. Memolo, LCDR, Ret, US Navy passed away May 28, 2022 in San Antonio, TX at the age of 91. Joe leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Lynn. He is also survived by his daughter Laurie (Bob) and sons Frank, Philip (Kristin), and Brian (Jessica), as well as a brother, 6 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He tragically faced the loss of two adult children during his lifetime. He was also preceded in death by a brother and 3 sisters.
Born as Giusepee, after his Mother’s Father, Joe began life in Brooklyn in 1931 during the Great Depression. At the age of 17, he joined the US Navy as an E-1 sailor. After achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer, Joe became a “Mustanger” by earning a commission as an officer. He retired as a Lieutenant Commander after 27 years of distinguished service.
After retiring from the Navy, Joe began a second prestigious career as a private investigator, eventually opening his own successful company. He was a proud member of the California Association of Licensed Investigators (CALI), serving as president of the association and receiving their highest award for his significant contributions towards the betterment of his profession.
Joe’s larger-than-life personality left an impact on all those he met. He will be truly missed by his family and many lifelong friends. His loss will be especially felt by the Navy community, as well as in the world of private investigators. Joe was also very active in many military organizations, including the VFW, and American Legion
There will be no formal service, Joe will be cremated, and his ashes spread at sea by the United States Navy. These were his wishes.
