Cherished husband, father, and grandfather, Joseph W. Faulkner, age 89, passed away into the new journey of his life on May 25, 2022. He was born on November 18, 1932, on his family’s farm near Attoyac, TX. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Faulkner; son, Michael James Faulkner; 2 granddaughters, Aloytia M. Ross (Christopher) and Mandala A. Faulkner (Ben); great-granddaughter, Sagan O. Nabers; and his nieces and nephews.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Bernice Faulkner and Sadie Cook Faulkner; sister, Lynn B. Faulkner; brother, Jimmie D. Faulkner and Extended family members.
After moving to San Antonio, Joe attended Thomas Jefferson High School and post-graduation began a lifelong career in the insurance business, where he met his loving wife of 61 years. He worked for several insurance companies, including Aetna and Cigna, before retiring in 1995. For 2 years, he also served in the U.S. Army at Fort Hood.
Joe’s passions throughout his life included, driving stock cars, playing tennis and softball, keeping fit and walking, and coaching a girls’ softball team. He was an avid volunteer at Central Christian Church, supporting community projects as a youth sponsor. He also helped look after his friends’ farms on weekends, driving tractors, tending cattle, and mending fences. Joe, never one to sit down for long, led a busy and fulfilling life by helping those around him tirelessly, always ready to lend a hand.
Joe has been the constant bedrock to his family. A man of true integrity and solid work ethic, he has supported his family through thick and thin without waver. He is a true hero to those who knew him best. The blessing of being part of his life will carry on inspiring and influencing the lives of those he cared for. it cannot be overstated, Joe will be sorely missed by those of us who love him and he loved in return.
The Visitation will be 9 am, Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with the Funeral Service to follow at 10 am. The Funeral Service will be streamed live on Sunset Facebook. The interment will continue at Sunset Memorial Park. There will be a catered reception at 11:30 am at the Sunset Reception Hall.
